chq (formerly Stack A) is a unique 19th century cast iron warehouse constructed over stone vaults originally designed to store wine and tobacco, with a ground floor area of 15,000 square metres. MCA was appointed to evaluate the structure, to find ways of conserving it and to convert the building for use as a commercial retail space and museum complying with the Building Regulations. Careful investigation and analysis of the structure and vaults enabled MCA to propose measures and solutions to problems of insulation, ventilation, fire safety, mechanical and electrical services distribution and access for disabled persons in accordance with the conservation plan for the building.
