Mater Private Extension
Mater Hospital Extension
MCA has provided architectural services on an ongoing basis for the Mater Private Hospital for in excess of 20 years including the recent extensions on the roof at the front and rear of the building. The project involved the development of complex interfacing phasing procedures as the hospital was required to continue fully in operation throughout the construction period. The new areas, comprising approximately 3153sqm in total, accommodate a Day Therapy and Endoscopy Facility, Day Oncology Unit, 4th floor ward extension and a Hybrid Theatre and Ancillary Theatre accommodation. The main reception was refurbished and a central atrium was provided to the existing lightwell to improve light levels and enhance the entrance foyer and waiting area. At the main entrance the existing stepped glazed conservatory was replaced by a glass and stone façade incorporating a stone clad canopy, which, along with the 5th floor extension, acts to tie together the various elements of the Eccles Street façade, providing a uniform line with the North West wing.
The project was completed in June 2014
