Winner of the 2008 RIAI Best Conservation project

George's Quay, Dublin 1

The 'CHQ' is a unique 19th Century cast iron warehouse with a total floor area of over 15,000m². Formerly known as Stack A, it was a wine and tobacco warehouse with storage vaults beneath.

MCA were appointed by the Dublin Docklands Development Authority to evaluate the building and to find ways of conserving and converting it for new use as a commercial retail space and/or museum/ exhibition space.

Careful investigation and analysis of the structure, fabric and vaults enabled MCA to propose solutions addressing issues such as insulation, fire safety, access for disabled persons and the installation and distribution of mechanical and electrical services.

Stack A has undergone a sensitive renovation which has managed to retain the material and structural integrity of what is considered the most impressive late Georgian industrial building in Dublin.
