Two of our international women are moving up the career ladder!08 March 2023

This International Women’s Day, we congratulate Nicola Sexton (right) and Marian D. (left) on their promotion to Associates.

Nicola has been with MCA for 8 years and specialises in healthcare design and delivery. All her work is underpinned by the firm belief that spaces should be designed to enhance the experience of the people working and being treated within their walls. Nicola’s unparalleled expertise in the field, along with her diverse skill set and commitment to engaging with the end user, make her a stellar addition to our team of associates.

Since joining MCA in 2019, Marian has worked across sectors to design outstanding buildings that work, not just for people, but for planet. Her core understanding of the overarching responsibility that architects have to improve our built environment, and her unwavering dedication to this ideology, position her as an integral member of our team and our company-wide commitment to a more sustainable future.

With women accounting for a mere 14% of people working in the construction industry, for the good of our industry we must redress this imbalance. Which is why today, on International Women’s Day, there won’t be any hollow gestures or empty words from us. Action is needed to close this gap and right this wrong - and anything less is entirely redundant.

Rather than shouting about it for one day a year, we quietly and diligently work all year round to hire, promote, advocate for and value the exceptional women within our specialist teams. Meaningful efforts like this from businesses within the industry, combined with the inspirational work of women such as Nicola and Marian, will pave the way for the next generation of women to continue challenging stigmas, pushing for a more inclusive, more sustainable future and achieving excellence across all sectors of the construction industry.
