1 Bishops Quarter, Limerick

Verizon’s new 85,000 sq ft Centre of Excellence occupies the award-winning 1 Bishop’s Quay building in Limerick City centre, at a prime riverside site steeped in history. MCA’s design reflects duality of Limerick City, its rich urban character and its connection to nature and the open wild spaces of County Clare, while delivering a flexible, future-ready workplace that champions wellbeing, sustainability, and cultural connection.

The spatial concept draws from the structure of the city, with central ‘streets’ and ‘courtyards’ creating a mix of quiet zones, informal nooks, and collaborative hubs. At the heart of the building, a stacked ‘wellness tower’, housing a library, yoga and fitness studios, wellness rooms, and a games area, sit above a dramatic double-height reception.

Facing the River Shannon, refresh spaces on every level, linked by a central stair that encourage movement, connection, and chance encounters. The uppermost floor acts as an internal park; a biophilic, light-filled space with lush planting, panoramic views, open lounge areas, a barista café, and an all-hands gathering space.

A curated blend of analogue and digital artworks celebrates local language, heritage, and Limerick’s transatlantic ties. Integrated smart systems, including a grid of environmental sensors, provide real-time data on air quality, temperature, and occupancy, optimising comfort and energy performance. Folding partitions, modular furniture, and divisible zones ensure adaptability for team sizes, event formats, and future technologies.

The result is a dynamic, people-first workplace that attracts top talent, fosters innovation, and supports Limerick’s wider regeneration.
